Bitcoin ETF July inflows returned to positive territory, with US-listed spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds taking in $172.4 million on a net basis in July, according to SoSoValue. For retail investors tracking crypto through brokerage accounts, the turn matters because fund flows show whether more cash is entering or leaving the products, a useful read on demand for bitcoin exposure.
Spot Bitcoin ETFs hold bitcoin directly and trade on stock exchanges, giving investors a way to get price exposure without using a crypto wallet or exchange. An ETF lets one trade buy a basket of investments, or in this case exposure tied to bitcoin, through a regular market account.
How much money went into Bitcoin ETFs in July?
SoSoValue data show the funds posted $172.4 million in net inflows for July. Net inflow means more money entered the funds than left them over the period; net outflow means withdrawals were larger than new money coming in.
The July total ended a two-month stretch of withdrawals. The improvement came after nearly $7 billion left spot Bitcoin ETFs across May and June combined, according to SoSoValue data cited by Cointelegraph. June accounted for $4.5 billion of that decline, the largest monthly outflow of 2026, Cointelegraph reported.
The finish to the month was weaker than the monthly figure suggests. SoSoValue data show the funds lost $265.4 million on Friday, their largest one-day withdrawal since July 13. For the week ending July 31, Bitcoin ETFs recorded $61.53 million in net outflows after three straight weeks of inflows.
Bitcoin ETFs are still negative for 2026
Even with July’s gain, US spot Bitcoin ETFs remained down by about $5.3 billion in net flows for the year, according to SoSoValue. March, April and July were the only positive months of 2026, bringing in a combined $3.46 billion. January, February, May and June together produced about $8.75 billion in withdrawals.
The longer-term picture is still positive since the products launched. SoSoValue data show spot Bitcoin ETFs have drawn $51.32 billion in cumulative net inflows overall, while total net assets stood at $76.29 billion at the end of July. Total net assets are the value of the funds’ holdings after accounting for flows and market moves.
The split between lifetime inflows and 2026 outflows gives investors two different signals. The products remain much larger than they were at launch, but this year’s withdrawals show demand has cooled at times as bitcoin prices moved around and investors reduced exposure.
Ether and XRP ETFs held up better in July
SoSoValue data show Ether ETFs had a steadier month, with four consecutive weeks of inflows and $365.2 million in net inflows for July. That was their second positive month of 2026 after a $356 million inflow in April.
Ether ETFs still remained about $1.1 billion negative for the year, according to SoSoValue. XRP ETFs posted $27.3 million in July inflows, marking their fifth positive month of 2026. SoSoValue data show XRP ETFs have brought in about $343 million on a net basis so far this year, making them one of the stronger crypto ETF categories in 2026.
