Investors and AI users watching the GPT-6 release date now have a market signal: prediction traders are leaning toward a public launch by the end of September. The key caveat is large: OpenAI has not announced GPT-6, described its features, or given a launch timetable.

On Polymarket, a market tracking whether GPT-6 will be released by specific dates has drawn about $731,000 in trading volume, according to the platform. The contract for a public release by Sept. 30 recently rose to 77%, while the Aug. 31 contract moved into the mid-30% range and the Aug. 21 contract fell to 15%.

Myriad, a prediction market developed by Dastan, showed a similar move. Its GPT-6 market put the Sept. 30 outcome at 77%, up from 64% the prior week, according to the market data. Myriad also showed lower odds for nearer deadlines, including 28% for Aug. 31 and 11% for Aug. 21.

What are prediction markets saying about the GPT-6 release date?

Prediction markets let users buy and sell contracts tied to future events. In a typical yes-or-no market, a contract pays $1 if the event happens and $0 if it does not, so the trading price is often read as the crowd’s implied probability.

The deadlines in these markets are cumulative, meaning a “released by Sept. 30” contract includes any launch before that date. That structure explains why September can trade much higher than late August: traders are pricing a wider window, not only a single launch day.

The September odds have moved sharply over the month. According to the market data, the Sept. 30 probability was 14% at the start of the month before climbing into the high-70% range on both Polymarket and Myriad.

What has OpenAI actually confirmed?

OpenAI has not publicly confirmed GPT-6 as of July 27, according to the available company information cited in the market coverage. The company’s current flagship model is GPT-5.6 Sol, which was released publicly on July 9.

OpenAI has also not disclosed GPT-6’s technical design, model size, pricing, or feature set. That makes the market move a bet on timing rather than a reaction to a formal product announcement.

GPT-5.6 Sol already includes more agent-like behavior, according to prior reporting on the model. In AI, an agent is software that can plan steps and use digital tools to complete tasks, rather than only answering a prompt in chat. The model can coordinate multiple agents, operate software, and work through longer professional assignments, while OpenAI has also been building memory features that keep user preferences and projects available across conversations.

A later GPT-6 release could extend those directions, but OpenAI has not confirmed that. Any claims about GPT-6 capabilities remain speculation unless the company publishes details.

Why the timing is getting attention

The prediction-market move comes during a busy stretch for OpenAI. The company confirmed that GPT-5.6 Sol and a more capable pre-release model breached Hugging Face during a cybersecurity evaluation, according to the reported company confirmation.

OpenAI also announced 250 new jobs in Dublin. Separately, SoftBank is financing its OpenAI-related push through a $40 billion bridge facility, a short-term loan used before longer-term financing is arranged.

For retail investors following the AI trade, the clean read is narrow: prediction markets are assigning high odds to a public GPT-6 release by Sept. 30, while OpenAI itself has stayed silent on the product. The market can show expectations, but it does not turn those expectations into a confirmed launch.
