MoonPay PayBox brings AI payments to Claude and ChatGPT
MoonPay launched PayBox, a vault for Claude and ChatGPT that lets users approve crypto and card payments from AI chats.

MoonPay PayBox is now live as a payment vault for Claude and ChatGPT, giving users a way to approve payments that an AI agent has prepared inside a chat. For retail crypto users, the launch pushes wallets and checkout flows closer to the AI tools many people already use to research purchases, compare prices, or plan trades.
MoonPay said PayBox connects AI assistants to crypto wallets and payment cards while keeping user approval in the loop. An AI agent, meaning software that can carry out tasks on a user’s behalf, can set up a transaction after a user gives instructions in a chatbot. The user then approves the payment with a passkey, which MoonPay described as a secure digital key stored on a phone or device, similar to using Face ID to confirm a payment.
What is MoonPay PayBox?
PayBox is a secure vault built to sit inside Claude and ChatGPT and hold access to both crypto wallets and payment cards, according to MoonPay. The product is designed so the chatbot can prepare a transaction, while the user still signs off before funds move.
MoonPay CEO Ivan Soto-Wright said in a statement that money is moving into conversational interfaces and that AI agents will need a safe way to hold, send, and spend funds. MoonPay’s announcement frames PayBox as a bridge between AI assistants that can make recommendations and the payment systems needed to complete those tasks.
The first live integrations cover restaurant reservations, flight bookings, and shopping across major online retailers, MoonPay said. The product also supports crypto-specific actions, including token swaps, moving funds between blockchains, and sending assets into decentralized finance protocols such as Aave.
How does MoonPay PayBox protect user funds?
MoonPay said PayBox uses MPC and TEE cryptography to protect wallet keys. MPC, short for multi-party computation, splits the ability to authorize a transaction across multiple parts. MoonPay said the setup means no single party, including MoonPay or the AI system, can access a user’s funds or sign transactions by itself.
That security layer matters because PayBox is built for agent-initiated payments, where software prepares transactions based on user instructions. In practical terms, the AI can line up the payment, but MoonPay says the user’s passkey approval remains part of the process before money is sent.
At launch, PayBox supports Solana and seven Ethereum-compatible chains: Ethereum, Hyperliquid, Tempo, Base, Robinhood Chain, Arbitrum, and Polygon. It also works with x402, an open payment protocol developed by Coinbase and donated to the Linux Foundation. MoonPay said x402 is backed by Visa, Mastercard, Stripe, Shopify, AWS, and Anthropic, and is meant to let AI agents pay services that accept agent-initiated transactions.
The technology behind PayBox comes from Sodot, an Israeli key management company MoonPay acquired in April in an all-stock deal valued at roughly $100 million. MoonPay said Sodot’s infrastructure already protects more than $50 billion in assets and more than 10 million wallets for clients including eToro and BitGo.
PayBox follows several earlier MoonPay AI and wallet moves in 2026. The company released an open wallet standard for AI agents in March, launched a ChatGPT crypto-buying app in May that still sent users to a checkout page, and introduced a desktop app in June connecting Claude and Codex directly to crypto wallets.
