NBCUniversal’s Peacock YouTube Premium deal gives U.S. subscribers a new reason to watch more television inside Google’s video app. CNBC reported that the companies have signed a multiyear agreement to make Peacock’s full streaming catalog available within YouTube Premium starting in early 2027.
For retail investors watching Comcast and Alphabet, the agreement shows how streaming companies are trying to solve a hard problem: audiences are scattered across apps, while tech platforms are capturing more viewing time. Putting Peacock inside YouTube means subscribers will be able to watch the NBCUniversal service without leaving YouTube, according to CNBC.
What is included in Peacock on YouTube Premium?
CNBC reported that the package will include Peacock’s full lineup, spanning NBC Sports, Universal movies, Peacock originals and Bravo programming. That includes NFL and NBA content from NBC Sports, Universal films such as the Minions franchise, and shows tied to brands including Real Housewives and “Love Island USA.”
YouTube Premium is the paid version of YouTube. It offers ad-free viewing and, depending on the plan, lets users download most videos for offline watching.
The arrangement goes further than a typical streaming bundle. In many bundles, subscribers still move between separate apps. Under this deal, CNBC reported, Peacock programming will be integrated into YouTube’s platform so viewers can access it from inside YouTube.
How the NBCUniversal and YouTube deal came together
The talks began after Comcast co-CEO Brian Roberts contacted YouTube CEO Neal Mohan about nine months ago, CNBC reported, citing a person familiar with the matter. After executives from both companies met at Google’s offices, they started discussing potential partnerships, the person told CNBC.
The companies also extended NBCUniversal’s multiyear distribution agreement with YouTube TV, the streaming television bundle operated by YouTube, according to CNBC. The broader deal also covers distribution of YouTube, YouTube TV and YouTube Premium on Comcast’s Xfinity cable TV and Xumo platforms.
Advertising is another part of the agreement. CNBC reported that NBCUniversal will be able to sell advertising tied to its Peacock content on YouTube’s platform, giving the media company another way to generate revenue from streaming viewers.
Why the deal matters for Comcast and Alphabet
The partnership comes as Comcast prepares to separate NBCUniversal from its parent company in the next year, according to CNBC. Co-CEO Mike Cavanagh, who is set to lead the NBCUniversal business after the separation, told investors on Comcast’s earnings call that he expects Peacock to stay profitable on an annual basis, though quarterly results may vary.
NBCUniversal reported last week that Peacock had 48 million paying subscribers as of June 30 and reached profitability for the first time in the latest quarter. YouTube says on its subscription page that it has more than 125 million global Premium members.
Traditional media companies are trying to grow streaming revenue while consumers move away from pay-TV bundles. CNBC noted that several large media businesses are also reshaping through deals, including Paramount Skydance’s agreement to buy Warner Bros. Discovery, Fox’s deal to acquire Roku, and Comcast’s planned NBCUniversal separation.
